About DIANZ

Drug Information and Alerts Aotearoa New Zealand (DIANZ) is supported by a network of health professionals and social services (both Government and Non-Government Organisations), including:

  • New Zealand Drug Foundation
  • KnowYourStuffNZ
  • St John New Zealand
  • Wellington Free Ambulance
  • Institute of Environmental Science and Research

DIANZ is a function of the National Drug Intelligence Bureau (NDIB), who are a joint agency made up of representatives from the:

  • New Zealand Ministry of Health
  • New Zealand Customs Service
  • New Zealand Police

About Data Collection/ Analysis/ Delivery:

A range of anonymised information sources provide input to DIANZ, including:

  • Existing NDIB sources
  • Network partner sources
  • Street sample testing
  • Public reporting

Information gathered is put through a standardised analysis process that leverages international best practice for harm reduction.

The results of this process will determine if a high risk situation exists, which will result in an alert being published on the website.  Lower risk situations may result in a notification being published.
